Got Caught Lying About My Lunch Break

Alright, so today was my first day at the new job and I thought it would be a breeze. I got there early, everyone seemed nice, and we had this big meeting where they went over all the rules. One of them being that our lunch break is exactly one hour from 12 to 1 PM sharp. Simple enough, right? Well, here's where things get tricky. See, on my way home last night I picked up some delicious Thai food for dinner and I didn't want to waste it. Plus, who doesn't love a late lunch when you're not hungry in the morning? So, around 1:30 PM today, after what felt like ages of paperwork, I decided it was finally time to eat. Of course, as I sat down with my container and chopsticks at hand, our team leader walked by. He's one of those types who seems to have eyes in the back of his head because he stopped right next to me and looked at his watch. 'Oh, nice timing,' he said with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. I forced myself not to blurt out how delicious this pad thai was for dinner and just mumbled something about being hungry earlier. Turns out, it wasn't as smooth as I hoped. Later on, another colleague cornered me and whispered that our team leader had been checking in at exactly 1 PM all week long to make sure everyone stuck to the rules. He apparently was not impressed with my late arrival during lunchtime. Oops. So yeah, here's where it goes from a simple lie about why I ate when I did into this whole affair of bending the rules and getting caught. But really, if Thai food at noon isn't an emergency worth breaking for, what is?
