I Pranked My Roommate but Now I'm Second-Guessing Everything

Anonymous Smug Gossip #866 · General

So there's this roommate situation. We've been roommates for like a year now and everything was cool until last week when I, you know, got bored one night and decided to mess with him a bit. You see, he’s always going on about how tech-savvy he is, knows every shortcut in the world, can fix anything related to computers in seconds. So yeah, I thought it would be funny to hide his USB stick and replace it with another one that looked almost identical but was actually full of useless files and folders labeled with funny names like 'Important Documents' or 'Secret Files Only for My Eyes'. He went on a rant about how he couldn't find his files, how I must've messed something up big time. Told him I didn't know where it was, acted all innocent. Next day, the same thing happened with another USB and this time there were weird photos of celebrities in funny poses scattered around. The third day, I added some audio files with a fake system beep sound for every click on his folder. Thing is, he’s been more paranoid about me messing up his stuff since then. Every time he goes to plug something into the USB ports or laptop he looks over at me suspiciously and sighs deeply. It's driving him crazy. I thought it would be funny but now I'm second-guessing everything. Did I go too far? Should I just come clean and tell him it was a prank, maybe buy him new USB sticks? It’s like every time he asks if I've seen his stuff or heard strange noises in the room I start stuttering and looking away, not knowing what to say. But he never really seems to call me out on it... just looks at me weird and continues whatever he's doing. So yeah, here we are. A roommate feud sparked by a silly joke and now no matter how much I laugh about it, the guilt starts creeping in. Do I go confess or let this one die down? What do you think?
