I'm Still Afraid of Dark Corners

You know that feeling when you're a kid and every dark corner seems like it's hiding something monstrous? Well, I guess I never really grew out of it. Every time I have to walk past the dark corners in my own house, I take these little hops and skips just so I'm not directly next to them. My husband says I look ridiculous, but hey, he doesn't get it. And you know what's funny? When we went on a camping trip last summer, I refused to set up our tent where there were any dark corners nearby. Everyone laughed at me for being overprotective of my comfort zone. But really, deep down, I'm just worried something might come out and startle me! Sometimes when I think about it too hard, it feels like the laughter from my friends turns into a little judgmental smirk. Maybe they're right; maybe I am just overly paranoid. Or maybe...maybe there's actually a small chance that darkness has its own creepy way of living. Either way, here’s to hoping the next corner stays pitch black and quiet!
