Caught Snooping on Patient Files

Today I caught myself doing something that's probably unethical and certainly frowned upon. While at work as a nurse, I found myself going through the medical files of some of our patients without any reason other than curiosity. I was supposed to be busy with patient rounds but my mind wandered to these electronic records. One file in particular, belonging to Mr. Johnson who had recently undergone heart surgery, grabbed my attention. What surprised me is that while scrolling through his notes, I felt a strange sense of satisfaction, it's like there's some part of me that enjoys knowing things others don't want shared. It’s unsettling because patient confidentiality is everything in our line of work, but here I am, guilty as can be and trying to figure out why this compulsion to peek exists inside of me.
