I'm a Stay-at-Home Dad and I Love Video Games More Than Cleaning the House

So, here's my story. I've been a stay-at-home dad for about three years now, taking care of my little girl while my wife works full-time. It's not an easy job, there are days when all I want to do is sit on the couch with a good book or catch up on some TV shows. But mostly, it means cooking meals, helping with homework, and cleaning house until everything looks perfect for my partner coming home at night. That last part drives me crazy sometimes though, keeping up appearances can feel exhausting. I also love video games. A lot of people think that playing video games is just a way to waste time or escape reality, but it's much more than that for me. It's like a sanctuary where I can lose myself in fantastical worlds and epic adventures, and sometimes forget about the piles of laundry and toys scattered around my house. Recently, there was this one day when the house had turned into chaos. The dog hair was everywhere, clothes were strewn across the bedroom floor, dishes had piled up in the sink since breakfast time, you get the picture. But I had just discovered a new video game that kept me hooked for hours on end. It felt so good to dive back into my gaming world after spending weeks dealing with every day's mundane tasks. I remember thinking, 'Who cares if the place looks like a disaster right now? This is who I am, and damn it, I'm going to enjoy my hobby without feeling guilty about it.' So I didn't touch any of the cleaning duties for several days straight. Instead, I spent most of my time sitting in front of my gaming console, losing myself in epic quests and battling monsters with friends online. Now, don't get me wrong, eventually, I did start picking up around the house again. My wife came home after a long day to find everything still messy, but instead of getting upset she laughed it off saying, 'You should have seen the state of my office!' It was a moment that made us both relax and realize that we’re human, with imperfect houses and habits, and sometimes that’s okay. So yeah, I confessed that despite being fully responsible for keeping our home tidy, I chose to prioritize my passion for video games. Was it selfish? Perhaps in the eyes of some people who think you can have both a clean house and all your hobbies at once. But guess what? I’m not sorry. It’s important to me to maintain my personal interests even when life gets hectic.
