I Pranked My Siblings and Got Caught Cold

Anonymous Shifty Busybody #509 · General

My older sister is a stickler for routine. She’s the type who plans every minute of her day in advance, from morning until night. On the other hand, my younger brother lives by a different set of rules: chaos reigns supreme. As for me, I’m stuck somewhere in between - sometimes embracing my sister's orderly ways and at others, getting swept up in my brother’s reckless abandon. One day, while my siblings were busy with their own schedules, I decided to take matters into my own hands. My brother was scheduled to clean out the garage as part of his chores for the week, but he had no intention of doing so. Instead, my sister would be left to deal with the mess later. I couldn’t stand by and let him get away with it again. I thought maybe a little prank could teach both of them a lesson - make my brother understand why his laziness affects everyone else in the house, and show my sister that she doesn’t always have to do everything herself. So I went into action. I hid all the tools he needed for the job inside different containers in the garage, making sure they were well hidden but not completely inaccessible. Then I spread around an assortment of junk from old clothes to dusty magazines and broken toys - anything that would make his task more difficult, more tedious. I waited eagerly for him to start on his chores but when he came back home after school, instead of heading straight for the garage as expected, he went inside to watch TV. I watched with frustration mounting. By bedtime, my brother had given up and announced that cleaning was now his sister’s problem. That night, my father asked us all what had happened at dinner. My brother tried to pass off the blame onto me - saying it must have been a joke because no one could actually be this lazy. To avoid suspicion from both of them, I just nodded along with him but deep down, I was terrified. Now here we are weeks later and my mom has caught on. She’s given us all detention (as chores) for the weekend, forcing us to clean up together. The irony isn’t lost on me - I set out to change my brother’s ways but ended up getting everyone in trouble instead.
