Why Did I Tell Everyone I Got Paid Leave?

so there’s this thing in our shop, you know, you get to take paid leave if you have a lot of hours worked...i just finished my shift at the coffee shop and told everyone i got approved for 3 weeks off next month...then later found out i had missed an email from the boss saying it was denied. now everyone is looking at me weird...like, did they all think i lied? am i really the asshole here or something....
