Why Did I Do This?

So yeah, I found this old high school yearbook under the bed last night and just had to flip through it. Now don't get me wrong, looking back at those days is nostalgic, the way we used to wear neon colors as if they were the latest trend, or how we thought we knew everything about life but really only cared about who was dating whom. But then I come across a picture of myself and my friend Mark standing next to that poster for our school play, me holding this huge flower like I just won some sort of beauty pageant instead of acting in a one-act comedy. And suddenly it hits me, why did I ever think I could pull off the 'romantic lead' role? Was it because Mr. Thompson suggested I try out, or was there actually something in that goofy smile of mine that made girls go weak at the knees back then? Anyway, before I knew it, I had this sudden urge to email Mark and ask if he remembered that play as fondly as I do. Now here's where things get weird, not only did I send him an email about our high school drama days (seriously, who does THAT?), but the very next day at work, when we were supposed to be focused on closing this big client deal, I had a mental breakdown over how much better I'd look in one of those tie-dye shirts than my boss ever could. Can you believe it? How can something as silly and harmless as looking through an old yearbook turn into such a distraction? Maybe I just need to accept that while I was once a teenage dreamer, now it's time for grown-up stuff.
