Picked Up Oil Painting But It's Not As Fun As I Thought

So here’s the deal. A few weeks back, I started learning oil painting because my sister said it was relaxing and fun for her. She showed me some of her pieces, and there was this one really nice sunset scene she did that just seemed so peaceful. Anyway, I got myself a set of paints, brushes, and a canvas and went to the local arts store to pick up supplies. Everything looked promising until I actually sat down to paint. It’s not going as well as expected. The colors are messy, everything looks uneven, and it just feels like so much work that I can’t even enjoy the process of creating anything beautiful or relaxing. What am I doing wrong? Is everyone else better at painting? Do they have some secret I’m missing? The worst part is that my sister has this huge setup now with all these special brushes and tools for oil paints, but mine look like a kit from Walmart. Every time she comes over and starts painting, her stuff looks ten times fancier than what I bought. I tried to push through it, thinking maybe I’d get better, but honestly, it’s just been stressing me out lately. My sister has been really supportive, but sometimes when we’re chatting about art, the insecurity just eats at me. It feels like a lot of effort for nothing compared to how happy she looks with her paintings. Maybe I’m not meant to be an artist? What if all my attempts are just embarrassing and a waste of money? Sometimes I think I should give up on this new hobby because maybe it’s better to stick to what I already know. But, you know, the idea still seems appealing when no one’s watching or judging. So yeah, there it is. My secret struggle with my new oil painting hobby. It feels good getting that off my chest.
