I Broke The Silence Rule

So, you know how Mom has this rule that we're not supposed to play music or make noise after 10 PM? Well, I totally broke it the other night. See, my older brother was home late again and he left his headphones plugged into his computer with some loud techno blasting. I went in there thinking maybe I could unplug them without waking him up, but as soon as I touched anything, the whole room got super quiet all of a sudden. It was like... eerie, you know? So naturally, I freaked out and just ran out of there, forgetting about unplugging everything. Anyway, Mom heard it from downstairs and came to check on us. I tried to say it was probably my brother messing with some loud equipment in his workshop or something, but she didn't buy it for a second. She's still giving me that look like she knows the truth, even if I did try to cover up what really happened. And here's the thing, now I feel guilty about lying when maybe I should've just owned up to my mistake, right? But sometimes being honest feels harder than pretending everything is fine.
