Forgot Grandkid's Birthday

I forgot my grandchild's birthday this year. I planned a surprise party for weeks, all the while celebrating it in my head, only to remember the date was last week after everyone else did. How could I? It’s not like me to be so careless with important dates. Am I losing my grip on time as I age? What should I do now?
