I Spilled Coffee All Over My Boss's Laptop Because They Asked Me To Work Overtime On a Weekend Without Notice

So last week, I had this huge project deadline coming up. Friday afternoon rolls around, and just as everyone starts to pack up their stuff to head home, my boss calls me into his office. He says something about needing an extra day to hit the target we set for this project. No big deal right? Wrong. It was already a Saturday morning when he said this, so that meant working another weekend without any prior warning or appreciation. I tried to protest, explaining how it's not fair and everyone else gets to go home on time every day except me, but my boss wasn't having it. He just insisted I needed to get things done. Well, after some more back-and-forth, I agreed under the condition that he'd make up for the lost weekend at a later point. Now here's where it gets funny, or tragic depending on how you look at it. The very next day, Saturday morning, I head into work with my laptop and all the necessary files. I get to the office, settle in, and start working away without so much as a coffee break. I mean, I was determined to not give him another reason to chew me out for slacking off. Then it happens: while pouring some hot coffee from the communal pot into my cup, I slip on something wet on the floor (probably someone else's spilled drink). My hand shakes trying to grab the edge of the counter, and suddenly, there goes a stream of scalding liquid right onto my laptop bag. No, wait! Not just any laptop bag, my boss's brand new laptop. At first, I was shocked, I mean who spills coffee on their own equipment let alone someone else's? But then again, it's not like he treated me with any more respect than that wet floor did. So in a way, maybe the laptop deserved a little spill too? Anyway, so now there's this big puddle of brown stuff on his fancy new machine and I'm staring at him with an apologetic face while also thinking, 'At least it wasn't my fault he asked me to work overtime on a weekend.' But seriously though, the worst part was that it probably cost more than my entire salary for a month. Maybe this is karma catching up with us both? So what if I'm not exactly sorry about spilling coffee on his laptop, call me defiant, but sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself, even in the most unconventional ways.
