I Lied About Reading That Book

So I had this book for ages and it’s everyone's favorite, you know? But I never got around to reading it. It's a thick one. So when my friend asked me if I'd read it already, I said yeah because what was I gonna do, say no? She wanted me to discuss the plot points with her but I had zero clue what she meant by 'red herring' and 'foreshadowing.' But guess what? When she mentioned some character’s name, I got a spark of recognition. Could it be that I accidentally glanced at one page while waiting for coffee or something? Maybe I'll say my dog chewed the book when they come over to borrow it.
