The Middle Sibling Dilemma

So here's a confession I've been wanting to get off my chest for quite some time. My name is Maya and I am the middle child in a family of three, sandwiched between my older sister Sarah and younger brother Jack. Growing up, we always had this unspoken competition that was never really verbalized but felt very real. My parents would often emphasize things like grades and sports achievements to us, which seemed to give Sarah and Jack an edge since they were excelling in these areas at different times over the years. I remember feeling increasingly sidelined as both of them got awards and recognition for their efforts while my contributions always felt secondary. The real breaking point came last year when Jack started a YouTube channel about video games and gained some local fame, getting invited to gaming events and even having people asking him for advice. This was around the same time I got an internship at a tech company that offered incredible opportunities for growth and development in the field I love. It seemed like my success wasn't being celebrated as loudly or visibly as Jack's newfound status. Fed up with feeling ignored, I did something rash and immature, I deleted his YouTube channel without him knowing. I took down all his videos, thinking that if he couldn't showcase his achievements for everyone to see, maybe it would make things more equal. Of course, the backlash was immediate and intense when Jack discovered what happened. He felt betrayed and my parents were furious with me for causing such trouble within our family. What I did was clearly wrong, but at that moment, it felt like a necessary act of rebellion against a perceived imbalance in how we were all being treated. Now reflecting on it, while there's no justifying the action itself, understanding why I acted out in such a way is important to me moving forward. It helps put into perspective my insecurities and shows that actions have consequences regardless of intentions. Hopefully this story might resonate with others who've found themselves in similar sibling dynamics.
