when i deleted the wrong code base

so last week was just cray, like super busy at work and everything feels a bit overwhelming. we had this major project coming up, you know, deadlines are always tight around here. my team lead gave me a huge chunk of stuff to do, and it felt impossible really, but what can i say, gotta get it done right? anyway so friday came and i was like oh man, one more day! but then my computer starts acting up, not syncing with the cloud properly or something. spent hours trying to fix it, got home late, barely slept. now i’m at work, grabbing a quick lunch just trying to catch up on some emails when suddenly, bam, it hits me. i think maybe because i was tired or stressed, but somehow i deleted the wrong code base. like, not my branch or anything, someone else’s. and this is huge, major stuff they’ve been working on for weeks now. i mean i know it wasn’t intentional, i was just trying to clear out old junk files or something, but you can imagine how bad that felt. tried rolling back changes first thing monday morning, freaked out all weekend trying to figure out what went wrong exactly and if there’s any hope of salvaging anything. i ended up confessing it to my boss and team lead though because hiding it wasn’t gonna help anyone, and i guess they appreciated that at least. but now every time i look at that code editor screen, i just cringe, like reliving the whole thing. it’s one of those moments where you really have to be super careful with your work environment setup, maybe double check everything more often before hitting delete or anything drastic like that. maybe get some better backups too, but also just take care of yourself when it comes to mental health and stress levels. i mean, things could’ve been much worse for sure.
