The Day My Kids Grew Up a Little Too Fast

Yesterday was the day I caught my seven-year-old playing dress-up with my old prom corsage and trying to explain it as a 'flower for a science project.' She got so flustered when I asked about it. It reminded me of all those times we played pretend at being little princesses or superheroes, but now she's starting to understand the difference between imagination and real memories. It made my heart sink just a bit. I guess as parents, we're always balancing these moments, joy in watching them grow with the bittersweet awareness that they’re not quite so little anymore.
