Just Can't Be Bothered to Introduce Myself Properly

Anonymous Shifty Whisperer #114 · General

Ever since I moved to this new city, there’s been this little voice in my head telling me to put myself out there and start making friends. But instead of striking up conversations at the local coffee shop or the gym, I’ve found myself concocting stories about why I can’t stay for an event or hang around for longer than a polite few minutes when people try to chat with me. The other day, while chatting with my new neighbor, I fibbed about having an urgent work call that needed immediate attention, even though I was just planning on binge-watching old TV shows at home. It’s silly really, since everyone is so friendly and welcoming here, but somehow the idea of small talk feels like climbing a mountain to me right now. I guess my lie can be chalked up to wanting one more day where I don’t have to deal with it. Maybe tomorrow will be different.
