New City Blues: Why Did I Invite Myself Over?

So here's a thing that happened last week. I moved to this new city for work a couple of months ago, and it was great at first. Met some cool people in my office, had nice coffee dates with new friends. But then everything got weird, especially when I went overboard with an invitation to someone from work. I met Sarah about a month after moving here. She's one of those people who just seems so put together, well-dressed, always has something interesting to say at meetings, and she even joined that office softball league everyone else avoided like the plague. Plus, she brought in homemade cookies on Friday afternoon once or twice, which was super nice. Anyway, last week we were working late, as tends to happen when you've got a new job and are trying to figure everything out. We left together since it wasn't safe walking alone at night after dark, but I guess she didn't really want me walking with her because she stopped short of her apartment building. So instead of saying goodnight, I asked if I could come in for a coffee or something. And here's the weird part, I didn't even wait for an answer before just inviting myself over and following her into the elevator. Now, to be fair, I had this whole story ready where it was all about convenience, she lives close by, plus we needed caffeine after that marathon meeting, right? But deep down, I think there's something else. Maybe it's because she seems so comfortable here while I'm still trying to figure everything out. It could also be the crush factor, I've been sneaking glances at her in meetings and feeling a bit of awkward nervousness around her lately. But here’s the kicker, she wasn't thrilled about me showing up unannounced. She had company, a cute guy who looked like he was there for more than just coffee. There were definitely some awkward moments as I sipped my espresso while they chatted and laughed, all of which made me feel like an intruder in her life. So now here I am, wondering why I would do something so stupid. Is it because of the crush? Or maybe out of loneliness since this is a new city where I don't know many people yet? It’s just one of those moments when you think about all the reasons for your actions but can’t pinpoint exactly which one drove you. Anyway, I ended up leaving pretty quickly after that and haven’t really spoken to her much since. So yeah, it was a weird night, one where instead of figuring things out in my new city, I messed them up a bit more.
