Parental Sneakiness Gone Awry

So here's something I did recently that really surprised even me. My teenagers were complaining about how much they miss their friends from middle school, and one day while scrolling through their social media feeds, I decided to see if any of those old friendships were still active. But instead of just asking them, I slipped into my son's account on his phone when he wasn't looking. It was harmless, right? Just a quick look at messages to gauge what was going on without him knowing. But as I scoured through the conversations and emojis, something felt wrong. Here I am, their parent, feeling like an outsider trying to reconnect them with friends they haven't seen in years. The guilt hit me hard when I saw how normal it all looked for a teenager, laughing at jokes I didn’t understand and sharing stories that seemed mundane but clearly meant so much more to him. So after some careful consideration, I told my son what I did, hoping he would be upset or at the very least annoyed with me for invading his privacy like this. Instead, surprisingly, he laughed it off, saying he's glad someone was there checking in on his friendships when he couldn't do it himself. It’s funny how sometimes our intentions aren’t so wrong after all.
