The Old Sneakers

I still wear my old high school running shoes because they're so comfortable, even though everyone else is long past them and onto stylish new sneakers. When we went to the gym last week, I noticed this one guy looking at me funny as he passed by in his sleek new kicks. It was like he could see right through me, back to that time when running wasn't just exercise but a way to cope with everything going on back then. I felt so out of place and nostalgic all at once, which is strange because it's not even my gym anymore. Why do old things hold such power over us sometimes?
