The Great Coffee Cup Caper

So today at work, something strange happened. I was in the break room getting my coffee when Sarah came in and asked if there were any clean cups left. Now, I know for a fact that there's usually only one cup in use because of our small team. But... well, there just so happened to be this one dirty cup at the bottom of the stack right before the clean ones. It was my cup, but it had dried coffee rings all over it and I thought Sarah would ask if she could take it for her drink. But here's the thing: that morning, I accidentally knocked over my own coffee mug while rushing to get ready. It made a big mess, and I didn't want anyone else to see how clumsy I am at work. So in this moment of panic and embarrassment, I said there were no clean cups left and pointed Sarah towards the water cooler instead. It felt like a white lie at the time but now that I've had some time to think about it, I realize how silly my reasoning was. It's just so weird how these little things can get stuck in your mind when you feel they might make you look bad or less competent to others. Maybe next time I'll be more honest and say something like 'Oh shoot, let me clean this really quick for you!' instead of avoiding the situation entirely. What do you think?
