My Coffee Mix-Up Mishap

I’m a barista at this bustling little café on the corner. It’s one of those places where everyone knows your name and what you usually order, but that’s also when things can get tricky. Today was just one of those days when my brain decided to take an unexpected holiday while I was in the middle of making someone's favorite drink. I mixed up two orders, they were both lattes with a splash of vanilla syrup and extra foam on top, but one had soy milk and the other whole milk. To make matters worse, both customers had similar names starting with the letter 'J'. I felt my face grow hot as they both approached me at the counter to pick up their drinks. I tried to mask my nerves by being overly polite and quick in serving them, but it was clear that neither of them liked having to ask which drink was actually theirs. In a moment of panic, I offered each of them an apology coupon for free refills all week. They accepted with gracious smiles, though I could tell they were wondering how often the barista forgot things. Reflecting on this incident now, I realize it’s all about staying focused and slowing down, even in busy moments. I should probably start double-checking every order before handing it over. This is a learning moment for me to improve.
