I Tried To Be Cool But Failed

So yeah, I was trying to be cool and impress my coworkers with some coding trick. You know how sometimes you see these one-liners or neat tricks in programming that look super fancy? And everyone's like, 'Wow, what a clever developer!' Well, I tried this thing yesterday during our team meeting. It was some Python magic that supposedly does the same thing as a 10-line chunk of code but in just two lines. So I thought, hey, show off, right? Show them how good you are and maybe get some slack points for it. But here's the kicker: turns out, that fancy one-liner was so complex and confusing no one understood what the hell I was talking about. And worse, my manager had to point out that while it did work, it made the code harder to read and maintain. So much for being the cool kid. I just sat there like a moron, trying to backtrack and explain how maybe we could use this in some specific scenario where performance really matters. But even I could tell from everyone's faces they were thinking, 'Why didn't you just write clear code instead of wasting our time with this mumbo jumbo?' It was one of those moments where I wanted a hole to swallow me whole. I tried so hard not to laugh at myself after. Sometimes being cool is overrated. Maybe from now on, clarity and readability should be my new motto.
