The Toy Lie

I recently told my kids that their favorite toy was broken and I threw it out when really I lost it during a particularly messy clean-up. I couldn't bear to face the disappointment, but now I feel guilty every time they ask about it. It's just a silly plastic thing, but to them, it means so much more than to me. Sometimes being a parent feels like walking on eggshells in our own home.
