Code Gone Wild

So I was working on this project and got a bit distracted by some code optimization stuff. It's one of those days where you just can't seem to focus on anything else but making your algorithms run faster, right? Anyway, before I knew it, I had spent an hour reworking the entire system for no real reason except that I was bored and wanted a challenge. My boss walked in just as I was finishing up and asked why I wasn't working on the actual project. I tried to explain about how optimizing this one piece could make everything better down the line, but he looked at me like I had two heads. Maybe it's just my OCD kicking in or something. Anyway, now I have this giant code block that no one else can understand and they're probably going to rip it out before too long.
