I Lied About Eating My Sister's Leftovers

So, here’s the thing. I’ve been staying at my sister Jane’s place for the last couple of weeks because I’m in between apartments and needed a crash pad until something opens up. Now, we get along pretty well and all, but there are times when living under the same roof can be a bit stressful. Jane is really into cooking healthy meals and she always tries to make sure leftovers don’t go to waste. Last night, I was having some serious comfort food cravings, like pizza or mac and cheese. But looking in the fridge, all I saw were these healthy leftover meals Jane had made herself earlier in the week. There was this big container of mixed veggies and quinoa that looked about as appetizing as a dentist appointment. Now, being polite, I told her they looked yummy, but deep down, I knew there was no way I would eat them. So last night when everyone else was out or sleeping, I sneaked the leftover container out to my car and threw it away. When Jane came home from running errands this morning and saw an empty container in the trash, she freaked! She had saved that meal for herself over the weekend and now felt awful about wasting perfectly good food. I didn’t feel great lying like that, but I also know how much she loves cooking these meals. Maybe next time I’ll just be honest and tell her my stomach needs something greasy instead of leading her on? But what if it comes off as insulting her cooking or being rude to live with me for so long? Ugh, this small lie is eating at me.
