I Made an Awkward Mistake During Science Class Today

So today in science class we were supposed to be working on this group project about ecosystems. I'm really into biology, so it seemed like a pretty fun assignment at first. But there's this one kid, Liam, he's kind of annoying and always acts like he knows everything. Anyway, our teacher Mr. Thompson gave us the instructions for the project. We needed to create models of different ecosystems using various materials in the classroom. Our group was tasked with creating a desert ecosystem. It's been bothering me all day that we didn't have enough sand material to make it look realistic, but I figured we'd just do our best. During class today, I started talking about how cacti and other desert plants store water in their stems and leaves. I got so excited explaining the adaptations of desert flora that I must've lost track of time because suddenly Liam interrupted me to ask what I was babbling on about. It was super embarrassing because everyone had been pretty quiet while I was speaking, but now they all looked at us like we were two kids playing dress-up. I realized then that I'd somehow mistaken the desert model for a rainforest one and kept going on about bromeliads and orchids having specialized leaf structures to collect water. Mr. Thompson asked if everyone understood what I was saying, but none of my classmates raised their hands, they all looked lost and confused. So in an effort to salvage the situation, I quickly grabbed some cacti models from the supply closet and started explaining them instead. But I could tell by the way Liam rolled his eyes that he thought it was just more nonsense coming out of my mouth. After class, I felt really bad about how stupid I must've sounded in front of everyone. But at least now our group has a pretty cool desert display with lots of interesting plants and animals. And maybe next time, before I start spouting off facts to the entire class, I'll double-check that I'm actually talking about the right topic first. I hope nobody thinks I'm too much of an idiot for this one slip-up. But it did give me something to laugh at myself about in my own head.
