My Secret Office Prank Gone Wrong

So there I was, feeling pretty confident about my plan to prank my coworker Alex. You see, Alex and I have this ongoing friendly competition at work where we try to outsmart each other with harmless pranks. It all started when I noticed they had a real fear of clowns, it turns out one time in childhood, they had an unpleasant encounter with a creepy clown balloon at a party. I thought, 'What better way to get them back for winning our last round than by playing on their phobia?' So I spent the whole weekend coming up with this elaborate setup. First, I made a series of red balloons shaped like shoes, just like those circus clowns wear in cartoons. Then I strategically placed these shoe-shaped balloons around the office, under desks, behind printers, and even one right next to their favorite spot for grabbing snacks from the break room fridge. I even wrote little notes on each balloon saying things like 'Look out for clowns' or 'Are those shoes yours?' Just enough to get them spooked but not so much that it felt too aggressive. The day I planned for all of this to go down, I woke up extra early and set everything in motion. I hid the balloons with meticulous precision so they would be a surprise when Alex walked into work. As predicted, within an hour of arriving at the office, Alex was already looking around nervously. Everything was going perfectly until my co-worker Sarah decided to make her morning coffee run right as Alex found their first shoe-shaped balloon. She saw them jumping back from the sight and laughed out loud, sharing a picture on social media with everyone she knew. The whole thing became a laughingstock within minutes, with people tagging the CEO in all these posts about my elaborate clown prank. Alex was mortified, but I had to admit that seeing their face as they realized what had happened was hilarious too. We ended up having a good laugh together at lunch, but this little incident taught me that sometimes, even friendly pranks can have unintended consequences.
