I Accidentally Told The Truth And Had To Lie About It Again

So, here's the thing. I was at my local coffee shop the other day and this girl who used to be my lab partner from undergrad walked in while I was waiting in line for my afternoon caffeine fix. She looked so good, even better than she did back then. So, obviously, I'm feeling pretty nervous about seeing her again after all these years and trying to figure out if she still remembers me or any of those times we worked together on projects that turned into late-night brainstorms over coffee and snacks in the library basement, though nothing romantic happened, just a lot of stress bonding and getting to know each other through shared struggles with our studies. Anyway, when I saw her coming towards me at the counter, I panicked and accidentally told the barista about having this classmate drop by instead of mentioning it was someone I hadn't seen in years whom I actually have these nervous feelings for. Then as soon as she approached me, I blurted out that I was there just to grab something quick before heading back home rather than hanging around or even offering a real greeting like 'Hey, how are you? It's been ages.' Now it feels like I've got this extra layer of lies and awkwardness between us when all I wanted was for her to see me as the same person we used to know from class, minus all the academic pressure now that years have passed. Do you think I should just be honest next time if she asks what brings me here so often or am I overthinking it and just making mountains out of molehills?
