Secret Gaming Addiction

I never thought I'd become one of those people who secretly loses hours away at video games. My best friend and I used to play together all the time when we were younger, but since college she's too busy with her own life now. So, every night after everyone else in my apartment is asleep or on their own business, I slip into the quiet of the living room and open up the game console hidden behind a pile of board games. It starts innocently enough, just playing a quick match before bed. But somehow, as the clock ticks past midnight and even later, I'm still there glued to my screen like it's the only thing that matters. The rest of the world fades away until finally my hands are too heavy from sleepiness to press any buttons anymore. I feel so guilty lying here in bed now, knowing full well how long I should have been asleep and how exhausted everyone around me will be tomorrow because of the noise keeping them up or just the knowledge that I'm off being lazy. How can something that brings you joy also bring such guilt? Have any of you found a way to balance your gaming hobby with more responsible adult life stuff?
