I'm the Reason My Best Friend's Dog Can't Have Dinner Anymore

So here’s what happened. Me and my best friend Sarah have been friends for years. We met in elementary school and pretty much did everything together since then. She has this adorable little chihuahua named Charlie that she adores like it was a baby or something. But I have this one silly thing, I’m allergic to dogs, really. Like, not life-threateningly allergic, but if I get within two feet of any dog, I start sneezing and my eyes water uncontrollably. Anyway, Sarah decided last week she wanted to throw a big dinner party at her place for our mutual friends. She’s such a great hostess; there was no way I could say no. But here’s the catch, Charlie is going to be there too because he loves socializing as much as we do. I tried talking Sarah out of it, but she insisted. Said she’d keep him away from me and would clean everything afterward. So dinner night comes around, and everyone starts arriving. I’m sitting on the couch trying my best not to sneeze all over my plate because Charlie’s fur is everywhere, his little dog bed, the floor cushions near the TV, you name it. Then out of nowhere, Sarah walks in with a big tray of snacks. And right there at her feet? Charlie jumping around and barking happily like he always does when she comes home from work. I didn’t want to freak everyone out, so I just stayed silent for another minute or two until my eyes started watering so bad I couldn’t take it anymore. So I hopped up quickly and blurted out how allergic I am to dogs and that it might be better if Charlie hangs out somewhere else. Sarah was shocked, hadn't even thought about it, apparently. So everyone just awkwardly moved their chairs back from the couch where Charlie was and found new places to sit while I stayed in one corner of the room. The next morning when I woke up at my place, guess who called me? Yep, Sarah with this big apology for forgetting all about my allergy. But then she said something that made me feel worse than before, 'It's too bad Charlie has to miss out on future dinner parties because he was a good boy last night.' And just like that, poor little Charlie can’t come over anymore for any get-togethers. He’s not exactly the easiest to take places anyway, but still. I feel terrible about it. I never wanted to ruin his fun. Maybe next time I should be more upfront with Sarah and warn her a week in advance or something? Anyway, that's my story, one big doggy snafu.
