The Library Card Scam

So here's the thing. I've been having a rough semester, and my wallet has taken quite a beating from all the expenses related to textbooks and late-night snacks. Last week, I was in a hurry to return a book that had just arrived as an assignment for one of my classes. There was no way I could afford another library fine on top of everything else, so I came up with what seemed like a clever plan at the time: I used someone else's library card to check out the book instead of mine. Now, here’s where it gets weird, why did I think this would somehow not come back to haunt me? I mean, it's not like I didn't know it was wrong. I could have just asked for an extension or explained my situation to a librarian, but I chickened out and decided to go with the easy way out. But now that I'm thinking about it more rationally, what exactly did I gain? I avoided a small fine temporarily, but in reality, I only postponed the inevitable. Plus, there's this nagging voice in my head saying I could get caught any day now, which makes me paranoid every time I enter the library. So, yeah, maybe I should just own up and take responsibility for my actions. It’s not like one little lie is going to change the world, but it definitely changes how I feel about myself.
