I Tried Being Popular and It Was Awful

So I decided to try being one of the popular kids at school. You know, dress in all the latest trends, spend time with them in the lunchroom instead of my usual table, that kind of thing. But it turned out to be really awkward. No matter how many brands I dropped hints about liking on social media, no one ever asked me what I thought of their new collection or offered me a designer item as a gift. And then there was the cliquishness - everyone seemed so worried about fitting in and keeping up appearances that it felt like every word had to be carefully calculated. The most embarrassing part? My best friend from my regular crew noticed all this and gave me a look of pity one day when we ran into each other during my attempt at social climbing. I ended up going back to being myself, which is much more comfortable. Although now I feel bad for the poor souls who genuinely try to fit in with those groups.
