My Secret Snacking Habit During Client Calls

So here’s the thing: I’m a freelance content writer and work from home. Now, one of my long-standing clients is this elderly lady who has an incredibly soothing voice and speaks in the most polite tone ever. You know the type, soft-spoken but commanding respect just by speaking kindly to you. Well, ever since I started working with her about six months ago, I’ve found myself doing something a bit embarrassing. I snack while we’re on calls together. Yes, I know it’s not professional and there are definitely better places for me to indulge in my love of crunchy snacks than during our important client meetings. But the thing is, I just can’t help it! Every time she starts talking about her ideas or needs, my hand instinctively reaches for that bag of mixed nuts right next to my laptop. It’s not like I stuff my face while we’re chatting either; it’s more of a casual nibbling kind of deal. I mean, if you told me this would ruin my career as a freelance writer, I’d be like, “Bull.” It’s just one of those quirks that seem to happen when you’ve been sitting in the same spot day after day. I know it might sound silly to confess such a small thing. But every time she compliments me on an article or sends over another project because she trusts my work so much, I find myself thinking about those secret snacks. Here’s the kicker though, she has no idea that during our calls, her voice is accompanied by the crunch of almonds and the occasional crinkle of wrapping paper as I tuck into yet another handful. Sure, I could probably make an effort to keep it out of sight or munch before we connect but honestly? I feel like she’s the kind who wouldn’t care one bit if I told her about my little habit. And that thought makes me even more comfortable with continuing on as usual. After all, who doesn’t love a client call with some tasty accompaniments?
