New Kid in Town Struggles with Local Lingo

Hey there! So I just moved from out of state and have been trying my best to fit in. The local slang here is a whole different language, and it’s like trying to learn Spanish at the age of fifty-five, pretty darn hard. Yesterday, someone asked me if I was “lit” about tonight's party. My mind went blank because they were talking about being excited, not on fire or anything. So I said something super smart like, 'Yeah, sure, but where can I find matches?' Needless to say, everyone stared at me like I had two heads. But hey, at least I know what a “lit” candle is now! Maybe next time I’ll just nod and smile when I’m lost in the local lingo.
