The Coffee Conundrum

Anonymous Scandalous Gossip #576 · General

So, I'm a barista at this bustling little coffee shop. We have these fancy machines that steam milk for lattes and cappuccinos, but they're tricky beasts. They make the best froth when you master them, but I've only been here about three weeks and am still figuring out how to work everything properly. Anyway, there's this regular customer named John who comes in at least twice a day. He always asks for his latte with extra foam, which is fine by me, that’s why we have the fancy machines! But I feel like every time he orders it, my hands are shaking because I'm nervous about getting it wrong. The other baristas can see this and they give me these sympathetic looks. The thing is, John isn't exactly Mr. Nice Guy. He's the type who will grumble if his drink doesn't meet his standards or takes a second longer than he thinks it should. And while I try to keep my cool and do my best, sometimes I feel like he's just here to complain. But then there are those rare moments when he actually smiles at me after picking up his coffee. It’s like that tiny bit of recognition for doing something right makes all the nervousness worth it. And let’s be honest, I kind of enjoy proving myself to him every time he orders, the barista version of a video game boss level. So here's my confession: am I really letting this guy control how much milk foam I froth? Is this normal or am I just being petty and immature about it? How do I keep my cool but still make sure his drink tastes great every time? Any advice from other baristas out there would be greatly appreciated! 😂
