My Terrible Week at Work

Anonymous Sheepish Charmer #622 · General

I don't know what's come over me this week. I've been so off my game and it feels like everyone around me is getting annoyed with how slow I am moving. It all started on Monday when our boss asked us to submit our weekly reports by noon, but I was still stuck on one particularly tricky part of my project. Instead of admitting that I needed help, I just kept pushing forward and hoping for the best. By lunchtime, I had barely made a dent in it and ended up submitting a report that was far from perfect. Tuesday wasn't any better. My coworker Jane asked me to take over her meeting because she had something important to attend to. Usually, I'm pretty good at these things but this time, I messed up big time. Not only did I forget half of the talking points we went over beforehand, but I also managed to suggest a strategy that was completely out of context and didn't fit with what Jane was trying to accomplish. The client wasn't happy, and neither was Jane when she found out later. Wednesday felt like a continuation of this downward spiral. I overslept in the morning and almost missed my train, which meant showing up late for work. To make matters worse, my coffee machine at home decided to break down that very day. So not only am I already stressed out about being behind on everything else, but now I'm also dealing with a major caffeine deficiency. By Thursday, it was clear to me and everyone else in the office that something wasn't right. My emails were delayed, my calls were rushed, and my overall productivity was way down. Even worse, I began snapping at colleagues for no reason whatsoever, like when Tom came into my office with a joke about how bad traffic can be, and all I could think of was how much it frustrated me that I couldn't get anything done. Friday seemed to hold some hope; maybe the weekend would bring clarity. But even as we wrapped up our week, I received an email from the boss reminding us to submit next week's plan by Friday morning at noon, which meant another stressful deadline was already looming ahead. The guilt and self-doubt were overwhelming, but there wasn't much I could do about it now except face another weekend thinking over all these mistakes.
