When Words Fail

So uh... there's this girl, Lisa. We've worked together at the office for about a year now and she’s always so cheerful and kind. It started off as just her being really nice to everyone, but over time I began to look forward to seeing her every day, even in our chaotic work environment. Last week, we were stuck working on this huge project together after hours and she ended up telling me about her love for indie films, turns out, she loves them almost as much as I do... but that’s not the point of my confession. The real problem happened when I was trying to tell her how great it felt to have someone understand my weird movie taste. But instead of just saying ‘It’s cool we like similar stuff,’ I got all flustered and ended up mumbling something about pizza. Can you believe that? Pizza! She looked at me, confused for a moment... then laughed and changed the subject back to movies again. That night, lying awake in bed, I kept wondering why I didn’t just say what I felt, why did it have to be pizza instead of expressing how much her friendship means to me?
