Working From Home Alone Is Too Lonely Sometimes
Anonymous Smug Flirt #438 · General
I work from home as a freelancer, which has its perks. No commute, flexible hours, and I can set up my space exactly how I like it. But there's one downside that sneaks up on me: the loneliness. It starts small, maybe just feeling like there’s no one to chat with at lunchtime. Before I know it, I find myself spending more time on social media than usual, hoping for any human connection. Or I end up binge-watching TV shows instead of focusing on my projects because even fictional characters are company. I tried a few things to combat the isolation, joining virtual coworking sessions and setting up regular calls with friends who live far away. These help somewhat but don’t fully fill that void of just having someone physically close by, you know? I’ve even thought about getting a pet or starting a local hobby group, anything to get out there more. I admit, there are days when all the freedom and flexibility feel like a cage instead. On those days, the only thing that helps is reminding myself why I started freelancing in the first place, for independence and creative control over my work life. But sometimes, just sometimes, it feels like a trade-off too steep to be worth it.
