Working Through Loneliness at the Checkout Counter

Anonymous Chatty Charmer #608 · General

Every day I come to work feeling like the air in here is a little stale, you know? Like everyone else just breezes by with their shopping carts and lists, but no one really notices me... except maybe Sarah from accounting. She always asks about my day and how I'm doing. It's nice, but it makes everything feel even emptier when she's not around. Today was particularly rough, I had an early morning shift after being up all night worrying about some stuff at home. By lunchtime, I felt like the only person here who could see my exhaustion... or maybe I just wanted someone to notice and say something kind... But then it's back to scanning groceries and trying not to let anyone know how tired I am. Sometimes, when things get really quiet in the store, you can hear your own thoughts loud and clear... and they're not always as cheerful as those colorful signs promoting deals and discounts.
