Spilled Drinks and Broken Dreams

So last week, I was working my usual shift at the bar. It's been tough these days, sales are down because of some new trendy spots in town. But anyway, this one guy walked in, looked like he had a few too many on him already. I tried to be extra careful with him, you know? Not wanting to add insult to injury by spilling his drink or something. Anyway, it happened. He tripped, and as he went down, he grabbed for the bar countertop, but instead of grabbing hold, he sent his beer rolling right into this girl's glass that was sitting next to him. She looked up at me with wide eyes like 'why are you letting this happen?' And I felt terrible because there was nothing I could do. She didn't complain or anything; just asked for a new drink and moved away from the bar so she wouldn't be in harm's way anymore. But now every time someone orders a beer, my mind goes back to that moment. What if it had been me tripping instead? Would they have gotten angry? Maybe I should have stepped in earlier? It's not like this is the first time something like this has happened, there are always spills and accidents at any bar. But I guess when you're feeling down about work already, these little things just hit harder than usual. So yeah, that was my big fail moment of last week. Probably overthinking it now, but still can't shake the feeling that maybe, just maybe, if I had been quicker on my feet or more attentive to the situation, none of this would've happened.
