My Classroom's Secret Library

You know those days when you feel like your classroom should be a little more than just desks and chairs? Well, there’s this one time I turned our science lab into my secret library. It all started with an old bookshelf from the attic that no one wanted anymore. One weekend, after school, I dragged it into the corner where we store all our microscopes and stuff. The kids loved the change! They’d read during breaks or right before lunch when they thought I wasn’t looking. And you know what? It brought out a whole new side of them, some who never picked up a book would now argue over whose turn it was to borrow 'Holes' by Louis Sachar. There were times when we’d have book chats, and the kids got so excited about discussing characters or plotting twists. But here’s where I got into a bit of trouble with administration. They thought this was all happening because we had extra reading time built in, not knowing it started as a teacher's whim to make our classroom feel more like home. Guess they found out about that secret bookshelf...but you know what? It was worth every moment of chaos.
