Staying Up All Night to Game

I stayed up all night playing video games last weekend. I knew I had an exam the next day but couldn't resist. Now, everyone keeps asking if I'm okay and if I studied at all. Am I just being lazy or is this normal for college freshmen? What should I do next time to balance fun and responsibility?
