So, I work as a barista at this little coffee shop that’s right by the university. It’s always packed with students cramming for exams and trying to stay awake through all-night study sessions. Every single day is like Groundhog Day, only instead of predicting six more weeks of winter, I predict that someone will order a triple-shot espresso or a gigantic frappe. You’d think after a year of doing this, the surprises would end. But nope! It never fails to amaze me how varied and creative people’s orders can be. But today was different. Today wasn’t just any other day, today I had to confess something that’s been eating away at my conscience for months now: I steal coffee beans from work. Now, before you get all judgey on me, let me explain. It started with a single packet, just enough for an extra shot of flavor in my own personal brew. But then, it escalated. A few weeks later, I found myself slipping another couple packets into my bag for home use without even thinking about it. Why do I keep doing this? Honestly, I love coffee more than I love most things, well, besides my cat and maybe my bed, but my monthly budget doesn’t quite allow for the luxury of specialty blends every week.
