I Tried To Be The Office Hero By Fixing A Colleague's Mess - Oops

So, I work in tech and am always trying to be the guy who saves the day. Lately, my colleague Jane has been having some serious issues with her project, things that would've caused major headaches for our team if they weren't caught early on. The other day, while she was out sick, I went through her code, fixed a bunch of bugs, and got everything running smoothly again. I felt really proud when the system started working without errors, and I thought everyone would think I was awesome for stepping in. But then Jane came back to work, and we had our daily stand-up meeting where people talk about what they've accomplished. Guess who decided to throw shade at me? None other than Mike, another senior developer on the team. He started going through all my changes, explaining why each one wasn't necessary or even counterproductive. I tried to explain that I was just trying to help out because it looked like a ticking time bomb and everyone seemed stressed about it, but he cut me off before I could finish. It felt bad enough without his commentary. What's worse is Jane didn't thank me for fixing her work, instead she asked what had changed and seemed annoyed by the whole situation. She even started to doubt if there were really any problems at all! Now, whenever I try to help out in a similar way again, everyone is going to look over my shoulder or ask why I'm touching their code. Maybe it's just office politics at play, but now I feel like an outsider despite trying so hard to be the helpful hero. And who knew that coming to Jane's rescue could backfire so much? Was it really a good idea after all?
