I Lied About the Cookie Thief

Today was supposed to be my kids' special treat day, but I accidentally ate the last cookie meant for them. I knew they would notice and demand an explanation, so I told them their teacher had taken it for a class event instead. Their disappointment turned to excitement when I added that she might bring some back next week. It felt like a small fib at the time, but now that evening has come and gone without any cookies, I'm feeling pretty guilty.
