Forgot My Mom's Birthday

I totally forgot my mom's birthday last week. I mean, how could I? It's like the worst thing ever and now she’s texting me these vague 'happy b-day' messages asking if everything is okay with no idea that I just completely dropped the ball. She doesn't know anything about my hectic college schedule though; it's not like I’m making excuses or anything, but man, how do you even explain to your mom you’re an irresponsible idiot? Now every time she calls me, I get butterflies and try to avoid talking until night when I can’t stay on the phone for long. It’s ridiculous because she probably doesn't remember her own birthday half the time anyway.
