I Tried To Be Popular And Failed Spectacularly

So I decided to start this big push to be more social and try to fit in. First step was joining the chess club because I'm actually pretty good at it, thinking I could use my skills as an in-road. But then, one day during a match, I got so nervous about impressing everyone that I made a really silly move and ended up losing to someone way below me on the ranking ladder. Everyone looked at me like I was nuts. Then, trying to salvage it, I tried some of those cheesy pick-up lines my roommate told me about... which somehow turned into me accidentally asking out this girl's grandmother instead. It's been a total disaster, and now I'm more alone than ever. But maybe there's something valuable in understanding why I felt the need to do all that, right? Sometimes, being yourself is actually what people are looking for.
