The Longest Night Shift Ever? More Like Never Ending

I'm a night shift worker at the local warehouse. It's 4 AM and I just got here from closing out the previous shift at 3 PM. The day before was another late one, but this is what you sign up for when you need the extra cash. So there we were, three of us on this crew: me, Alex who had been working since morning, and John who showed up early to cover a sick call. Alex starts complaining about being tired, so I offer to take over his area while he takes a break in the lounge. John's already got enough work on his plate with filling orders for an impending shipment deadline. Then Alex drops this bomb, because he had that much caffeine, he forgot the truck delivery from last night, which was half done and now needs finishing before dawn. I try not to groan too loud but damn it, I thought we were all offloading that together earlier! Now John's on me for not noticing the missing packages, and Alex can't even face the boss this early in the day. So here I am, picking up everyone else’s slack again because someone had a caffeine hangover. I finish up and report to management who basically says, 'Nice work,' but doesn’t actually give me credit for it on my timesheet. Of course, no one wants to take responsibility when shit hits the fan. At least Alex got chewed out, though. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if it means not being in Alex's shoes this morning.
