I Lied About Knowing The City's History

So here I am, fresh in this new city with a grand facade of knowing all about it. You know what they say, 'fake it till you make it'? Well, I definitely had that going on when some locals asked me if I could recommend historical spots to visit. I mean, who doesn't love a bit of friendly small talk? Except I was standing there with my palms sweating and my brain blank as a whiteboard. Instead of just being honest and saying 'no clue', I gave them this elaborate spiel about the old clock tower that's supposedly haunted (I made up) and some street named after an ancient king no one really talks about anymore. Yeah, I totally fibbed about it all to seem like I belonged here already. And you know what? It felt kind of liberating at first, playing this role of the local expert. But then, later that evening as I was settling into my new apartment with unpacked boxes all around me, I couldn't shake off the feeling of being a fraud. Yet, here's the kicker: even if they find out one day, I probably won't feel too guilty about it. Sometimes you just need to take a dive and pretend to know something until you actually do.
